The Environmental Research Institute (ERI) in Thurso, Scotland is a component of the new UHI Millennium Institute (UHI; Environmental Sciences - RAE '4') and provides a high quality, dynamic environment for multi-disciplinary environmental research. The UHI has recently secured a £7.5M investment to enhance research excellence in the Environmental Sciences. As part of the second phase of recruitment for this programme the ERI is delighted to be able to offer a number of exciting new positions.
PhD Studentships (3-3.5 year bursaries, £12,300 p.a.)
A number of PhD programmes are offered within the following themes: • Oceans, weather patterns and climate prediction • Metabonomics in environmental science • Peatland restoration and aquatic chemistry • Novel bioactive compounds from marine sources • Composition and responses of marine biomass • Characterising colloids in coastal waters
Research / Senior Research Fellows (£24,352 - £27,929 / £28,829 - £38,685) Post Doctoral Research Associates (£20,044 - £23,182) The ERI is seeking to appoint dynamic individuals to establish & develop research in some of the following interdisciplinary areas: (Appointments include a research start up-package) • Marine or freshwater ecology / hydrology • Peatland ecology / hydrology • Environmental microbiology • Environmental organic chemistry / biogeochemistry • Environmental management • Environmental instrumentation & technology
Research Technicians (£16,949 - £18,331) Exciting opportunities for highly motivated individuals to join a growing multidisciplinary research team.
• Laboratory technician: Supporting diverse research activity and implementing and managing a UKAS accreditation scheme. • Laboratory / field technician: Supporting environmental research effort in the lab and field.
