Post-Doctoral Scientist position in Physics or Physical/Analytical Chemistry.
Professor K.W.Michael Siu at the Centre for Research in Mass Spectrometry has an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral position in mass spectrometry.
Dr. Siu's research program centers on the use of mass spectrometry for bioanalytical and biophysical research. Current research areas covered by the research program are collision cross section determination of peptide ions, determination of proton and metal-ion affinities of peptides, threshold collision-induced dissociation, mechanisms of protonated and metallated peptide ion fragmentation, molecular radical cation formation of peptides, development of novel mass spectrometry hardware, and protein identification, sequencing and quantification. These areas are not compartmentalized, allowing group members a broad exposure to various MS fields, instruments and technologies. The successful applicant will develop in close collaboration with MDS SCIEX and a team of graduate students and postdocs novel dissociation techniques and quantification methodologies. He/she will share time between MDS SCIEX and the Centre for Research in Mass Spectrometry at York University both located in Toronto. The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. in mass spectrometry or physics, in an area related to mass spectrometry or optical spectroscopy. Experience in designing complex high tech systems is required, with as key skills vacuum or electronics design, ion optics and/or optics modeling. A willingness to actively engage in bioanalytical mass spectrometry is essential. A strong record of publications and achievements in related areas is desirable. The successful applicant must be able to work independently and collaboratively, requiring strong interpersonal skills. Basic english language skills and a willingness to improve these skills are required. The presence of Russian speaking students in the Centre for Research in Mass Spectrometry and Siu group will be of assistance in accommodating future postdoctoral fellows. Informal inquiries can be addressed to Dr. Udo H. Verkerk at uverkerk@yorku.ca. Initial appointment is for one year with the possibility of extension. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Please forward applications to Professor K.W. Michael Siu at the address given below. A complete application packet should include a curriculum vitae (including a list of relevant hobbies), and three letters of recommendation. York University forms a young and vibrant community, located in strongly multicultural and friendly Toronto. The Centre for Research in Mass Spectrometry (see: http://www.chem.yorku.ca/CRMS/) is located in the Chemistry Department and has a suite of state-of-the-art instruments as well as access to machine, electronics and glassblowing shops. Toronto has a thriving Russian community with over 20 Russian newspapers and magazines, 4 TV programs (one of them being 24 hours a day), numerous Russian-speaking schools, concerts, and restaurants (see www.russiantoronto.com).
